THE HISTORY OF ACCRA WEST GRAND

The Accra West Grand was created in 2013 from the erstwhile Accra Grand Commandery which was broken into Three (3) Grand Commanderies. The Erstwhile Accra Grand Commandery covered the entire jurisdiction of the Accra Ecclesiastical Province of The Catholic Church which had 6 dioceses spread through Four (4) Regions of Ghana namely The Greater Accra Region, The Eastern Region, The Volta Region and recently the Oti Region.

The dioceses were Accra Archdiocese, Koforidua Diocese, Ho Diocese, Jasikan Diocese, Keta–Akatsi Diocese, and the Donkokrom Vicariate. The Accra West Grand Commandery has its jurisdiction as Western Part of the Archdiocese of Accra. It contains 3 Deaneries namely the Kaneshie Deanery, the Mamprobi Deneary, and the Kpehe Deneary, with over Sixty Seven (67) Parishes, Rectorates or Outstations spread through these three deaneries.

Accra West Grand has Thirty (30) Commanderies with a membership of over One Thousand active Knights, and Twenty Seven (27) Ladies’ Auxiliary with a membership of over Nine Hundred active Ladies. Additionally, Accra West Grand has Six Hundred and Eighty Five (685) Cadets spread through Twenty-Four (24) Cadet Commanderies and Five Hundred and Nine (509) Juniors spread through Twenty One (21) Junior Auxiliaries.

Accra West Grand has Three (3) District Commanderies namely 3rd District, 6th District, and 11th District Commanderies and Three (3) District Auxiliaries, namely District 1, District 2 and District 3 Ladies Auxiliaries. The Accra West Grand shares a boundary with the Cape Coast Grand to the West (Kasoa), The Gulf Of Guinea to the south, The Koforidua - Ho Grand to its North and its boundary to the east bordered by the Accra East Grand.
